The shield

Children don't go looking for violent content. It arrives.

Children aged 8–17 interviewed for Ofcom's 2024 study on violent online content. Every one had encountered it — most of it unasked, arriving through feeds, algorithms and strangers. Most first saw it at primary school age. Ofcom, March 2024

Route one — closed There is no feed No recommendations, no discovery, no autoplay. The biggest delivery route for this content doesn't exist in the app.

Route two — closed There are no strangers Only approved contacts can send your child anything. An unapproved account cannot message, call, or appear.

Route three — filtered Friends still forward things Violent and sexual images are recognised and blurred on the device, before your child sees them. The check runs on the phone; nothing is uploaded.

We didn't build a smarter filter than everyone else. We built a messenger without the parts that deliver the harm.

The point

They can still talk to everyone.

A safe app their friends aren't on doesn't get used. It gets replaced by a secret second phone.

Friends on Rhyse Messages, voice notes, photos, group chats and video calls. Everything a twelve-year-old expects a messenger to do. Available in the beta.

Planned Family on WhatsApp and Messenger We are working on connecting Rhyse to WhatsApp and Messenger under the EU’s interoperability rules, so a grandmother never has to install anything. Not live yet — we are going through Meta’s partner process now.

Video calls to anyone We send a link and the call opens in the other person's browser — nothing to install. Single-use, expiring, and your child admits the caller.

Price and privacy

You pay, so your child isn't the product.

Every free app for children has to earn somewhere, and there is only one place it comes from: the child. Attention, profiling, data sold onward, a feed built to keep them scrolling.

We plan to charge €9.99 a month per child account, and that is the entire business model. No ads, no trackers in the app, no analytics on children, nothing sold or shared. In the app we hold a handle, a contact list, and messages we cannot read.

The beta is free. We will not start charging without telling you first.
